Raj Bhavan Assam celebrates Sikkim statehood day

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Raj Bhavan, Assam, under the leadership of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, celebrated the 50th Statehood Day of Sikkim at a solemn function held at the Raj Bhavan Conference Hall here today. Extending his heartfelt greetings on the golden jubilee of Sikkim’s statehood, Governor Acharya lauded the state as a shining example of sustainable development, unity, and cultural richness. “Sikkim, where nature smiles, is not just a state-it is a symbol of determination, harmony, and progress,” he said. The Governor praised Sikkim’s unique identity, highlighting its pristine natural environment, its pioneering achievement as India’s first fully organic farming state, and its unwavering commitment to ecological preservation. He acknowledged the state’s leadership in sectors such as tourism, education, and innovation, underscoring its role as a national model of green development. Reflecting on his own tenure as the former Governor of Sikkim, Acharya spoke with warmth and nostalgia, saying the experience left an indelible impression on him. The serene landscape, the simplicity of life, and the industrious spirit of the people continue to inspire him, he noted. He emphasized that Sikkim’s vibrant cultural mosaic, where communities including Lepchas, Bhutias, Nepalis, and others live in harmony, is one of the high points of the state. He described the state as a “living embodiment of social cohesion and inclusive growth.” The Governor also reiterated the importance of the “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” initiative, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, as a vital platform to foster cultural understanding and national integration. He said that celebrating the foundation days of different states deepens the collective consciousness and strengthens the fabric of unity in diversity. The Governor also highlighted the historical and cultural bonds between Assam and Sikkim calling both states as the pillars of Northeast India's identity and development. “While Assam serves as the gateway to the region, Sikkim exemplifies ecological harmony and cultural depth,” he said. Director, Regional Resource Centre for NE States, Govt. of India Dr. Raj Prabha Moktan, Independent Director, NRL, Sudeep Pradhan Jashoda Chettri, Assistant Resident Commissioner, Sikkim House, Guwahati, Joint Secretary to the Governor Bidit Das, officers and staff of Raj Bhavan along with a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
