Lecture Series on works of Nobel Laureates

Aditya Ankur, Tezpur, January 28: Tezpur University (TU) inaugurated its Lecture Series on Frontier Knowledge, Imagination, and Initiatives on the groundbreaking works of Nobel Laureates on Tuesday. The inaugural lecture focused on Machine Learning through Artificial Neural Networks, highlighting the transformative contributions of John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton, who was jointly awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics for their pioneering work in the field. Prof. Partha Konar, a noted theoretical physicist from the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, delivered the first lecture. Prof. Konar delved into the theoretical foundations and practical applications of artificial neural networks, emphasizing their role in driving modern Al innovations. A key highlight of the lecture was the discussion on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), a frontier area in Al research that aims to create systems capable of human-like reasoning and adaptability. Speaking at the event, Prof. R. R. Hoque, Dean, Academic Affairs of the University, remarked that through this lecture series, the university aims to inspire the next generation of thinkers and problem-solvers to push the boundaries of knowledge. Prof. Utpal Bora, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, delivered the welcome address, stating that the series is a continuous effort to celebrate and disseminate knowledge that drives global progress. Over the next two days, the Lecture Series will feature a diverse array of topics across fields for which the Nobel Prize is awarded, including Chemistry, Peace, Literature, Economics, and Medicine. Vice Chancellor, TU, Prof Shambhu Nath Singh urged the students to take inspiration from the lecture series and treat it as a platform to ignite their imagination.
