UGC announces hike in stipends for researchers

Staff Reporter Guwahati, October 26: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to revise the stipends offered to the Junior Research Fellows and Senior Research Fellows across multiple disciplines. The revised fellowships will come into effect on January 1, 2023, and are expected to benefit about 31,000 students from across the country. The UGC took the decision to revise the fellowship amounts under the UGC Fellowship Schemes at its 572nd meeting.According to the notification from UGC, the stipend amount for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) has been increased from the existing Rs 31,000 to Rs 37,000 per month and the amount for the Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) has been increased from Rs 35,000 to Rs 42,000 per month. This increment will be available to researchers working in the fields of Science, Humanities and Social Sciences. The same increment is being offered to researchers, both JRF and SRF, availing of the Savitribai Jyotirao Phule fellowship for single girl child. The Dr DS Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship (DSKPDF) amounts have also been increased by the University Grants Commission. The Post Doctoral Fellowship has been increased from Rs 47,000 to Rs 58,000 per month for the first year, Rs 49,000 to Rs 61,000 for the second year and Rs 54,000 to Rs 67,000 for the third year. Similarly, the Higher Post-Doctoral Fellowship has been increased from Rs 54,000 to Rs 67,000 per month for the entire tenure.
