Guwahati, November 5: Remembering the ‘Bard of Brahmaputra’, Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his death anniversary, the Rotary Club of Guwahati conferred “Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Award” to eminent singer, poet, lyricist, composer, Dr. Lakhyahira Das at the Guwahati Press Club on November 5. Dr. Das has music with her voice and has set a golden example for every Assamese, especially Assamese women. Her contribution in the field of Assamese folk music is immense. She was awarded with a gamusa, japi, xorai, bankahi, a pair of notable books, a flower pot and certificate of appreciation. In her speech, Dr. Das has thanked everyone for honouring her with the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Award and wished and blessed the audience and the upcoming youth to continue their pioneering works in the future, and she has also shared a few instances of her life to motivate the public and fuelled their enthusiasm. She ended her speech by singing a few lines. The award was conferred during a formal programme held on the eve of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s death anniversary. The event is sponsored by current president of Rotary Club Dr. Shashank Shekhar Dutta and secretary Dr. Sunandan Baruah with the support of JBF (Just be Friendly), a guwahati based non-profit social sector organization. Their unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that celebrate art and cultural heritage has been instrumental in making this event possible. Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, President, Rotary Club said that this step has been taken by the rotary club of Guwahati since 2021 with the aim of showing respect to the great personalities associated with the cultural field of Assam and to make the younger generation interested in the cultural field.
