Staff Reporter, Silchar: In a dynamic push towards community engagement and social reform, Cachar District Commissioner Shri Mridul Yadav, IAS, unveiled the district’s official anti-drug mascot “Nozy” on Tuesday during a high-impact awareness campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA). The event, held at the New Conference Hall of the DC’s office, witnessed an enthusiastic turnout from youth, stakeholders, and community members. “Nozy”, designed as a symbol of resistance and youth empowerment against drug abuse, is the winning creation of Sourav Rishi, a student from Assam University’s Department of Visual Arts. Felicitating Rishi, DC Yadav hailed the mascot as a creative embodiment of the youth’s collective voice and commitment to a drug-free future. Adding depth to the campaign, a thought-provoking short film on drug abuse was also launched. Designed to resonate with young minds and grassroots communities, the film portrays the emotional and social impact of addiction while promoting messages of hope, recovery, and vigilance. The programme also honoured institutional contributors. The Visual Arts Department of Assam University and Art of Living Foundation were recognised for their support through creative and mindfulness initiatives. Certificates were distributed to campaign contributors and volunteers. In a parallel effort, a district-level awareness meeting on “Combating Human Trafficking and Ending Witch-Hunting” was also held in collaboration with Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women. Chaired by Additional DC (WCD) Shri Hemanga Nobis, the session featured key insights from Advocate Dharmananda Deb of the District Legal Services Authority and Sub-Inspector Maheshawri Das, who called for urgent grassroots vigilance and legal awareness. Earlier in the day, a district-level awareness rally—starting from the DC’s office and moving through Silchar—amplified public messaging on drug abuse, human trafficking, and witch-hunting, drawing considerable attention with vibrant placards and slogans.
