CM lays foundation stones of several developmental projects at Morigaon district

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, December 8: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma laid foundation stones of 12 developmental projects worth Rs. 910.13 crore as part of “Bikakhor Babe Eta Pokhek'' initiative launched by the Government of Assam in a programme held at Morigaon district today. Chief Minister Dr. Sarma today laid the foundation stone of a new Medical College and Hospital at Morigaon, mini stadium at Jagiroad and Manipur and upgradation of Govt. Polytechnic and ITI into centres of excellence. Foundation stones of several roads cum embankment projects including construction of 14.70 km road from Basundhari hills to Killing-Kopili, 11 km road from Brahmaputra to Hiloikhunda via Dhing, road from Solmari village to Ojagaon and RCC bridge over river Kopili at Bhakatgaon on Jagiraod-Morigaon road were laid by the Chief Minister. Dr. Sarma also laid foundation stones for several erosion protection works. This includes a project at Murkata under Mayong Revenue Circle, erosion protection at Pabhakati-Gorubandha along with a project for erosion protection and embankment construction at Muamari in the district. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that a target has been set to make the Medical College and Hospital functional before the assembly election in 2026 and plans are afoot to set up a cancer hospital, B Sc. Nursing College, GNM Nursing School and a Dental College within the Medical College campus. Dr. Sarma informed that the government would start enrolment of new beneficiaries under Orunodoi scheme from December 12 and altogether 18 thousand beneficiaries would be included from Jagiroad, Morigaon and Lahorighat constituencies. He said that ration cards would be provided to five thousand new beneficiaries in the district and steps have been taken to ensure medical facilities upto Rs. five lakh to them under Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana. He informed that advertisement for 30 thousand new government jobs would be published before January 30 next year and for those who plan to take up entrepreneurship, a new scheme with financial outlay of Rs. five thousand crore would be rolled out. He said that the Assam government is working with an aim to provide government jobs to one lakh youth and making 5 lakh youth self-employed. While MLA of Morigaon LAC Ramakanta Deuri delivered the welcome speech, the programme was also addressed by Health & Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta. Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, PHED Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, former Union Minister and Chairman of Assam Food and Civil Supply Corporation Rajen Gohain. MLA Sashikanta Das, Dr. Ashif Mahammad Nazar. CEM of Tiwa Autonomous Council Jibon Chandra Konwar, Morigaon DC Debasish Sarma, Special Secretary of PWD (R) Debajit Bhuyan, Adviser of Tiwa Students Union Bimal Amchi and several other dignitaries were present in the meeting. Later, the Chief Minister visited Sri Sri Narowa Kuji Satra and inaugurated a museum of artifacts and antique items as well as a newly constructed guest house. He also assured to extend all possible support from the government for infrastructure development of the Satra. Chief Minister Dr. Sarma today also inaugurated the office of the Morigaon district Bharatiya Janata Party during his visit.
