Gossaigaon, September 8: Simultapu police led by Sanjay Kumar Rai, i/c, Simultapu police out post acting on a tip off seized 80 logs of Teak wood apprehended the driver of the truck in the wee hours of this morning. The truck bearing registration number UP-55T-2401 was on the way to Kolkata in West Bengal from Dimapur, Assam when it was intercepted by the police. Police sources informed that based on a secret input about the illegal smuggling of the Teak Wood a naka chaki was installed near Assam-Bengal border Simultapu where we have successfully managed to seize the illegal consignment. Police suspects that the seized Teak wood would be of Burmese origin.The Teak wood was kept hidden with corn sacks over it to fool the police but failed in their very attempt. The driver arrested by the police has been identified as Upendar Kumar Jaiswal(33) of Uttar Pradesh. The value of the seized Teak logs would be around INR 20 lakhs in open market, police said.
