Sootea Divas celebrated in the initiative of Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali, August 21: The national tricolour was unfurled at Sootea police station lowering the union Jack by a crowd of three thousand people including students, teachers, freedom fighters and general public of the greater Naduar area on August 20, 1942. To commemorate the historic day, Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika had undertaken an initiative to observe this historic day as 'Sootea Divas' in association with the general public of the greater Sootea area. In this regard a human chain procession was taken out which was inaugurated by Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur in the morning. Nabin Singh, the superintendent of police, Biswanath inspected the human chain. Hari Prasad Mishra, a freedom fighter hoisted the national flag at Sootea police station. Biswanath DC Munindra Nath Nagatey paid homage to freedom fighters. A public meeting was held at Sootea Natya Bhawan. Dr. Anjan Ozah, principal of Chayduwar College graced the occasion as an appointed speaker who traced the glorious history of Sootea police station where the peace loving freedom fighters hoisted the national flag peacefully. All the house holders of Sootea lit up an earthen lamp in memory of freedom fighters this evening in front of their houses besides lighting lamps inside the Sootea police station premises. Uday Shankar Saikia conducted the proceedings of the open session which was graced by many dignitaries.
