Assam CM inaugurates new audio-visual hub at JCFTI

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, August 22: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today dedicated a state of the art Audio-Visual Hub of Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio at a function held at the premises of film institute here today. The 10 crore project had its commencement on November 10 in 2019 and is supported by NEC. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that the inauguration of the audio-visual hub marked an important day in the history of Assamese Film industry as now onwards film producers across North East will not have to go to either Chennai or Mumbai for the post-production activities of their films. The state of the art facilities put in place in the audio-visual hub will enable the filmmakers to get their post production done using the latest technology. He said that the subsidized rates at which the facilities at the audio-visual hub will be given on hire to the film producers will help them to do their post production works like picture editing, sound editing, sound mixing, visual effects, color correction, graphic designing etc well in the state. The Chief Minister said that though the COVID 19 pandemic has had its impact on the Assamese Film industry, the State government is taking several innovative steps to revitalize the industry. Hailing Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio for its role in promoting the art of film making in Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that the institution has been changing itself with the changing time. He said that the institution which was set up in the year 1961 was a manifestation of the dream of cultural doyen Rupknowar Jyoti Prasad Agrawala who made the first Assamese film ‘Joymati’. Stating the journey of Assamese film which made its first appearance in the year 1935, Dr. Sarma said that over the years the films have been a medium which reflect aspirations of the people. Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that considering the fact that films are the means by which tributes can be paid to the culture and persons who promoted the historical and cultural heritage of the state, the State government is preparing a feature film on Bir Lachit Borphukan.
The Chief Minister also said that the State government would also build an auditorium with 1500 seat capacity in Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio. On this occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma also thanked different personalities from past and present who are instrumental in running Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio and brought it to its present status. Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora who was also present on the occasion spoke on the State government’s role in making Jyoti Chitraban a potential platform of film making. Rajya MP and Political Secretary of the Chief Minister Pabitra Margherita, Chairman Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio Society Bidyasagar Bora also spoke on the occasion. Secretary Cultural Affairs Loya Madduri, film actress Mridula Baruah, several cine artistes and host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
