Nagaon, July 7: As part of Azadi ke Amrit Mahotsav, Assam State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institution (SAMETI) in association with District Agriculture Department, Nagaon organized a two day long sensitisation programme on organic agriculture among village headmen of the district on Tuesday and Wednesday at the office campus of Nagaon district agriculture officer. The programme was initiated as per directives of National Agriculture Extension and Management Centre, Hyderabad aiming to focus the mission as well as the vision of Prime Minister on organic agriculture among the farmers. The programme concluded on Wednesday here. Over 84 village headmen of the district participated in the sensitisation programme. Assistant Director of State Agriculture Department Rabijit Dutta Chaudhary and senior agriculture development officer Rajib Bhuyan were present in the programme as the chief observers where senior agriculture officer and sub-divisional agriculture officer Bhadra Kumar Bora anchored the entire programme. District agriculture officer Tarun Hazarika inaugurated the programme on Tuesday morning and in his inaugural speech, Hazarika stressed on organic farming saying that due to use of maximum chemical or laboratory based fertilizers as well as pesticides in food crops, currently posed a health hazard to all human beings across the globe for which the world body came ahead and insisted on organic farming. Hence, there is no option to combat the problem caused by food crops across the globe, except organic agriculture, Hazarika reiterated further. Dipen Nath from Kishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon and Biman Saikia graced the occasion as the resource persons, a release added.
