Bureau Report,
Nagaon, July 18: People of Tubuki Grant under Rangolu based Kothiatoli Somobai Somitee, spotted over 36 bags of rice sanctioned by the government for the beneficiaries under Anna Suraksha Yojana scheme today at the house of one Abdul Hakim of the village. The locals recovered the rice when it was being loaded in a public carrier bearing registration number AS 21 C 5720 to transport it to somewhere else, sources said. It was alleged that the rice was sold by one Hobibur Rahman, the fair price agent of the area, instead of distributing among the beneficiaries. People of the particular village alleged that the government sanctioned the rice twice in a month regularly under the scheme. But the fair price agent of the village only distributed the rice once in a month and the other quota rice being supplied under the scheme was being siphoned off by the fair price agent in association with some members of the Samobai Somitee, they alleged further. Meanwhile, over a hundred people under the concerned Samobai Somitee took the issue to the office of the cooperative society. The irate villagers went on a rampage and raided the office of Kothiatoli Somobai Somitee. Besides, the protesters also staged a strong protest against the irregularities as well as misappropriation of the rice by the agent as well as other members of the society. During the protest, the protesters shouted various slogans against the cooperative society and also made the secretary and president of the society responsible for such irregularities and misappropriation. Subsequently, the protesters handed over 36 bags rice and the vehicle to the local police for further legal proceedings, sources added further.
