KCP and UNLF (P) operatives arrested in Manipur

Imphal: In a significant blow to underground insurgent activities in Manipur, security forces arrested two active cadres belonging to proscribed outfits KCP (PWG) and UNLF (P) in separate operations on June 29 and 30. The arrests have disrupted ongoing activities related to extortion, illegal arbitration, and recruitment, bolstering efforts to uphold the rule of law. On June 29, a joint team of security forces apprehended 38-year-old Mutum Dinesh Singh of KCP (PWG) from Leirongthel Pitra near a primary school under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station, Thoubal district. A resident of Yairipok Nungbrang Makha Leikai in Imphal East, Dinesh was allegedly involved in extorting civilians, kidnapping, and recruiting youths into the banned outfit. Items recovered from his possession included two mobile phones with SIM cards, three ATM cards, a PAN card, Aadhaar card, driving license, and ₹450 in cash. In a separate operation on June 30, 19-year-old Khangembam Bishal Singh alias Pakpa or Lainingthou, a cadre of the UNLF (P), was arrested from Khurai Kongpal Thoubandong under Porompat Police Station. Hailing from Phougakchao Ikhai Bazar in Bishnupur district, Bishal was accused of running kangaroo courts in valley areas, especially in land disputes, crimes against women, and informal loan recoveries. Authorities seized an unregistered white Mahindra Bolero, three mobile phones, and ₹1,030 in cash from his possession. These arrests mark a significant step in curbing parallel justice systems and illegal insurgent operations in the region. In related developments, Manipur Police continued its traffic enforcement drive. On June 30, 72 challans were issued, collecting ₹1,23,000 in fines, while 13 vehicles had tinted films removed on June 29 to ensure compliance with visibility norms.
