ADTU Hosts State-Level Workshop on National Digital Library of India

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Assam down town University (AdtU) recently organized a significant state-level workshop on the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) and NDLI Club, in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur — the institution responsible for managing the national-level digital initiative. The event, held recently at the university’s campus, aimed to create awareness about the vast academic and research resources available through NDLI and to encourage educational institutions across the Northeast to actively participate in NDLI Club activities. More than 250 participants, including teachers, librarians, and students from various institutions across Northeast India, attended the day-long event. The workshop served as a platform to exchange knowledge and explore the transformative impact of digital libraries in enhancing learning, teaching, and academic research. The inaugural session was graced by Nagaland University Chancellor Samudragupta Kashyap, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, Kashyap emphasized the critical role of digital learning platforms like NDLI in democratizing access to quality educational content, especially in remote and underserved regions of the Northeast. Dr. Narendra Nath Dutta, Chancellor of Assam down town University, welcomed the guests and underlined the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting digital literacy and academic resource sharing. The Chief Speaker of the workshop, Dr. Bablu Sutradhar, spoke extensively on the growth and vision of NDLI and how NDLI Clubs can foster a culture of self-learning among students. Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh from the Department of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University, delivered an insightful session on the relevance and evolution of digital libraries in today’s educational landscape. The event was also attended by Assam down town University Vice Chancellor Dr. Narayan Chandra Talukdar and Pranbir Singh, both of whom shared their perspectives on how universities can leverage NDLI for institutional growth. Gauhati University Librarian Dr. Prasanta Kumar Keot also graced the event and contributed to the discussions on resource access and digital literacy. The workshop was effectively coordinated by Dr. Santosh Kumar Upadhyay and Dr. Dimpi Pathak Das from AdtU, ensuring a well-structured and engaging experience for all participants. The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session and a call for greater academic cooperation among Northeast institutions to expand the reach and impact of NDLI.
