Kohima: In a proud moment for Nagaland’s education sector, two students from government higher secondary schools — Shethilu Medeo of Ruzhukhrie GHSS and Iris Zomawii Lushai of Chumoukedima GHSS — have been selected to represent India at the prestigious Sakura Science High School Program 2025 in Japan. The students are participating in the week-long programme from June 13 to 21, accompanied by Gihukali Sema, PGT of Chumoukedima GHSS, under the supervision of India’s Ministry of Education (MoE). The initiative is organised by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) as part of the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science. The Sakura Science Program promotes scientific curiosity, cross-cultural understanding, and international cooperation among outstanding students from across Asia. During their stay, the students are visiting top Japanese universities, schools, and technology hubs, while also engaging in cultural exchange activities and academic presentations. Shethilu and Iris were selected through a merit-based process conducted by Samagra Shiksha and the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), specifically for students who passed HSLC from government schools and are currently pursuing science in government institutions. Their selection marks a significant milestone for government school students in Nagaland, reflecting the state’s progress in expanding academic horizons and fostering global exposure through quality education and national programmes.
