Hareswar Bora, Nagaon: The overflowing water of Kapili river submerged a greater area of Kampur as well as Kachua in Nagaon district, since last night. As per reports, the flood water inundated large areas of Patiapam and Nadeurigaon including residential houses as well as other agricultural land after a portion of the embankment near Patiapam was breached by the flood water. It's reported that the Gosaingaon connecting PWD road, is also threatened as the road is being eroded by the floodwaters. The rural roads of Ojagaon and Dapara have also been submerged. The people of the greater flood affected areas have already shifted their domestic animals to uphill or other high places. Besides, the Kapili river's erosion has also threatened the Kampur-Jamunamukh road near Sariahtoli, with a significant portion of the road at risk of being washed away. Although the officials from concerned departments have attempted to reinforce the area with soil, residents claim it is insufficient. The district administration, led by Additional District Commissioner Debahuti Bora and Kampur Revenue Circle Officer Ananya Lahkar, visited the affected areas and assessed the situation. The administration provided animal feed to the affected residents and assured them of all necessary support. Raju Borah, president of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Assam, visited the affected areas and demanded the construction of a high embankment to prevent future flooding. He threatened to launch a mass movement if the demand is not met. As per the latest reports, the Kapili river is still flowing 1.45 centimetres above the danger mark, posing a continued threat to the surrounding areas.
