Kohima: Retired district and sessions judge Nino Iralu was officially sworn in as the new Lokayukta of Nagaland on Monday, becoming the third person to hold the post since its inception. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the conference hall of the civil secretariat in Kohima. Chief Secretary J Alam administered the oath of office, while Home Commissioner Anoop Khinchi opened the proceedings. The event was attended by senior officials, Lokayukta staff, and members of Iralu’s family. Iralu succeeds Banuo Z Jamir, who was appointed in December 2022 following the resignation of the state’s first Lokayukta, Justice Uma Nath Singh, in February 2021. During the interim, Upa-Lokayukta Mayang Lima handled the responsibilities. Her appointment was approved by the Governor based on the recommendation of the Selection Committee under the Nagaland Lokayukta Act, 2017.
