Staff Reporter, Guwahati: The 85th birthday of renowned composer and music director Ramen Baruah, was celebrated on June 6 with a special programme at the auditorium of New Art Players. With the aim of promoting the popularity of Ramen Baruah's compositions among the younger generation, a musical evening titled “Ramen Da'r Opoja Dinot Suror Exondhya” was organised. Along with the members of New Art Players, several admirers and dignitaries from the field of culture were present at the event. The programme began with Rathindra Narayan Bhattacharya, General Secretary of New Art Players, explaining the significance of the occasion. Ajay Kumar Dutta, President of the organisation, welcomed the august gathering, shared his memories with Ramen Baruah and ceremonially cut the cake to mark the celebration. As part of the programme anchored by Nayan Prasad, a special song titled “Luitor Bishal Paror”, written by lyricist Dr. Dilip Kumar Baruah in honour of Ramen Baruah, was formally released by President Ajay Kumar Dutta. The song was rendered by Dwipen Baruah and Avanee Choudhury, with composition and music arrangement by Anupam Choudhury. The musical session began with performances of several popular songs composed and directed by Ramen Baruah. These were performed by Rupam Bhuyan, Rubul Kalita, Spandan Chakravarty, Humayun Choudhury, and Kritanjali Goswami. Instrumental accompaniment was provided by Amar Deka (Keyboard), Indra Baruah (Guitar), Deepak Talukdar (Tabla), and Rupjyoti Sharma (Percussion). The event concluded with the rendition of the State Anthem.
