Khungur Boro wins Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2025

A Correspondent, Udalguri: Renowned Bodo poet Amar Khungur Boro, hailing from Uttar Gejerkuchi village in Assam's Udalguri district, has been conferred the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2025 for his acclaimed poetry collection, “Ang Asur.” Born on December 5, 1994, to farmer parents Sukram Boro and Bamoni Boro, Amar’s literary journey began at a young age. He actively contributed to various magazines and newspapers before gaining wider recognition in the Bodo literary world. His debut poetry collection, “Houathazaanai Mijing Fourni Simang,” was published in 2019. An alumnus of Gauhati University, where he is currently pursuing research, Boro’s academic path also includes stints at Uttar Gejerkuchi Primary School, Shimluguri Middle English School, Murmela High School, Nation Pioneer Senior Secondary School, and Tangla College. Boro’s poetry is known for its powerful social commentary, reflecting themes of transformation, identity, and deep introspection. He is also considered a source of inspiration for young writers and readers in the region. Reacting to the honour, a joyful Boro said, “This award is a validation of my creative journey and the commitment I hold towards literature. It inspires me to continue writing with even more passion.”
