Health Minister Ashok Singhal reviews Department Performance

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal today conducted a comprehensive review of the Health and Family Welfare Department’s functioning at a high-level meeting held at the National Health Mission (NHM) office in Guwahati. Senior officials, including Commissioner & Secretaries P. Ashok Babu and Barnali Sharma, Commissioner & Secretary of Medical Education and Research Dr. Siddharth Singh, and key directors from various health services departments, were in attendance. The meeting focused on the implementation of health schemes, infrastructure development, and service delivery, particularly in flood-affected regions. Minister Singhal underscored the urgency of regular health check-ups and the timely distribution of essential medicines in relief shelters. With the monsoon season raising the risk of waterborne diseases, he directed health workers to remain vigilant. Addressing malaria outbreaks in border areas like Kokrajhar and Chirang, the Minister called for intensified efforts to control its spread. He also announced plans to establish Fast Referral Units (FRUs) in every Assembly constituency to bolster maternal, pediatric, and emergency healthcare access. As part of preventive healthcare, the Minister instructed the Director of Ayush to implement regular yoga training sessions at every Ayushman Arogya Mandir, aligning with the Fit India Movement and encouraging community participation in health initiatives. Highlighting the need for modernization, Singhal emphasized full digitization of administrative and information systems to boost efficiency and transparency. He directed officials to ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential medicines in all government hospitals. In a bid to improve service quality, the Minister called for regular training and personality development programs for doctors, nurses, ASHA workers, and other healthcare personnel. The meeting also included a review of the state’s blood bank infrastructure, the progress of Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Ayushman Assam–Mukkhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AA-MMJAY), and precautionary measures in response to a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases. Minister Singhal reiterated the need for a proactive, people-centric approach in healthcare delivery, especially in challenging times such as the ongoing floods.
