CM Sarma visits GMCH to check on ailing veteran leader Bijoya Chakraborty

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) to enquire about the health of veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister Bijoya Chakraborty, who is currently undergoing treatment for age-related ailments. During the visit, Dr. Sarma personally interacted with Chakraborty and the attending doctors, expressing optimism about her recovery. “Affable as ever, Bijoya Baideu was in high spirits and I hope she will get better soon,” the Chief Minister wrote on social media platform X. He also directed the medical team to provide the best possible care to the 85-year-old leader. “I have instructed the doctors to take all necessary care so that she recovers at the earliest,” he added. Bijoya Chakraborty, a respected figure in Assam and national politics, served as Minister of State for Water Resources in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government and was elected thrice to the Lok Sabha from Gauhati. She was also a Rajya Sabha member from 1986 to 1992 and received the Padma Shri in 2021 for her contributions to public life. Leaders, well-wishers, and citizens across the state have extended prayers for her speedy recovery.
