BSF Foils Smuggling Attempts on India-Bangladesh Border in Tripura

Agartala: The Border Security Force (BSF) has successfully thwarted multiple smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, arresting five suspected cattle smugglers and recovering contraband valued at over ₹20 lakh. In a major operation on June 14 at the Dholakcheri Border Outpost in South Tripura, BSF troops, acting on intelligence inputs, apprehended five individuals allegedly involved in cattle smuggling. A total of 12 cattle were rescued. All suspects hail from South Tripura and Gomati districts. In a separate incident the same day, BSF personnel at the Nirbhoypur Border Outpost in West Tripura intercepted a smuggling attempt involving 47 brand new mobile phones, valued at around ₹10 lakh, being moved across the border fence into Bangladesh. Officials confirmed that the seizure of foreign goods and electronic items reflects the persistent activity of smuggling networks along the international border. Meanwhile, the BSF is set to introduce a newly designed uniform aimed at improving comfort and functionality for troops stationed in diverse climate zones. DIG (North) Yogendra Singh Rathore stated that the new uniform will be made of an 80:20 cotton-polyester blend, optimized for hot and humid regions like Rajasthan and the Northeast. The upgraded attire will feature a revised colour scheme, enhanced insignia, and improved visibility of ranks, reinforcing both utility and identity for personnel on the ground.
