Assam Police Detain Two More for Anti-National Activities

A Correspondent, Guwahati: The Assam police have detained two additional individuals linked to "anti-national and communal activities," bringing the total number of arrests to 90, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on June 7. CM Dr. Sarma took to his official social media handle to provide the update on the ongoing crackdown, stating, "Update on crackdown against Anti-national and communal elements - 7 Jun - 90 arrests till now."ne of the recent arrests was made by Goalpara police for allegedly posting offensive content related to Lord Ram on social media. The other individual was apprehended by Kamrup police for reportedly inciting communal tensions through online platforms.The Assam police have intensified actions against persons promoting "anti-India" and "pro-Pakistan" sentiments, especially on social media, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.Among those arrested under anti-national charges is opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam. Initially detained on sedition charges for purportedly defending Pakistan’s role in the Pahalgam attack, Islam was later released on bail but subsequently re-arrested under the stringent National Security Act.The Assam government has maintained a firm stance on the issue, with CM Sarma asserting that the crackdown on individuals involved in activities undermining national integrity will persist across the state.Authorities continue to monitor social media and public discourse closely to identify and act against elements they believe threaten communal harmony and national security. The police and administrative machinery remain vigilant to curb the spread of divisive content and prevent the escalation of unrest.The series of arrests reflects the state’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding peace and security while addressing challenges posed by radical and extremist influences in the region.
