Apollo Excelcare launches dedicated cancer support group

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a moving tribute to resilience, recovery, and community, Apollo Excelcare Hospital, in collaboration with Apollo Cancer Centres (ACCs), launched ‘CanWin’—a dedicated cancer support group initiative—on the occasion of National Cancer Survivors Month. The launch event, held at Apollo Excelcare Hospital, celebrated the indomitable spirit of cancer survivors through a powerful storytelling session led by individuals who have triumphed over the disease, now referred to as ‘cancer winners’. With voices steeped in courage and experience, survivors recounted their journeys of diagnosis, treatment, and eventual recovery, offering hope and strength to those still navigating the path. Their stories, filled with raw emotion, became symbols of determination and a testament to the healing power of shared experience. Acclaimed author and renowned columnist Maini Mahanta, the event’s special guest and mentor, underscored the power of storytelling as both therapeutic and transformative. “Rooted in the belief that shared strength can change lives, CanWin is more than just a support group — it’s a safe and compassionate community,” said Mahanta. “Storytelling is not only cathartic but also transforms personal pain into collective wisdom, breaking the silence and stigma around cancer.” Designed as a brand-agnostic, inclusive platform, CanWin brings together oncologists, psycho-oncologists, patients, caregivers, and volunteers in a common space for healing, learning, and emotional support. Whether newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or living in survivorship, individuals are welcomed into a network that fosters empathy, understanding, and hope. The event witnessed the participation of prominent oncologists including Dr. Adil Hassan, Dr. Kiran Kamalasanan, Dr. Abhijit Phukan, Dr. Bubul Chandra Roy, and Dr. Arnab Kalita. They highlighted the encouraging rise in cancer survival rates, attributing it to early diagnosis, advanced treatment options, and the growing importance of psycho-social care in recovery. All affirmed the importance of CanWin in enriching the spectrum of cancer care by addressing the emotional and psychological needs of patients and caregivers. Hospital leadership, including Chief Operating Officer Thaomunglung Chukhrungfa and Medical Superintendent Dr. Seema Konwar, lent their wholehearted support to the initiative. Apollo Excelcare Hospital continues to provide specialized treatment for various cancers, including gynecological, gastrointestinal, head and neck, and colorectal malignancies. With the launch of CanWin, Apollo Excelcare Hospital and Apollo Cancer Centres have reaffirmed their commitment to holistic and humane cancer care—one where no individual faces cancer alone.
