New Delhi: The ongoing India vs England Test series at Headingley has given fans a moment to remember forever. Indian vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant scripted history by becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a century in both innings of a Test match. Pant scored a brilliant 134 runs in the first innings and followed it up with another superb 118 in the second innings. These performances are not a sudden surprise but a result of hard work and careful changes in Pant’s batting technique. His coach from the famous Sonnet Club, Devendra Sharma, revealed that after a tough phase in Australia and the IPL, Pant decided to focus on improving his defence, patience, and shot selection. Sharma told that Pant practised for 2.5 to 3 hours every day to improve these areas.Rishabh Pant's childhood coach, Devendra Sharma, opens up on his batting approach and said, "You may have noticed that Pant appeared to play contrary to his nature in the first innings in England. He played in a defensive mode from the start. Earlier, he used to be aggressive on every ball, but now he has learned to be patient and has been cautious in shot selection."Also read: Rishabh Pant reprimanded for misbehaving with on-field umpire: Breaches level 1 of ICC Code of Conduct; handed one demerit point for 'showing dissent'"It's not that Pant has abandoned his aggressive style, but he has started to respect good balls and hit shots on bad balls. He has worked well on defence and drive. This is the reason he succeeded in scoring centuries in both innings," Sharma added further.harma also recalled the tough time Pant faced after his car accident in December 2022. "When I went to see him in Dehradun, I also felt that playing cricket might be difficult now. Pant asked me only one question, 'Sir, will I be able to play cricket again?' I composed myself and said, 'Yes, you will be able to play, but first, get well.' At that time, motivating him was challenging. Everyone, from the family to others, motivated him," Sharma said.
