Alumni Meet Held at Chatia College

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali: The alumni meet of Chatia College was held on Monday at the college's conference hall with Narayan Hazarika, President of the Alumni Association, presiding over the event. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Ganesh Pathak, President of the College Governing Body, marking the formal inauguration of the gathering. A major highlight of the event was the release of the annual magazine (2023–24) of the Students’ Union by Padma Hazarika, Honourable MLA of Naduar constituency. The magazine, edited by Sajida Nargish under the mentorship of Dr. Babita Baruah, was widely appreciated for its literary and creative richness. In his address, MLA Hazarika lauded the initiative, emphasizing the importance of college magazines in nurturing creative writing skills and fostering a love for literature among students. He encouraged more student engagement in such literary pursuits. Dr. Swapan Kumar Kalita, Principal of Chatia College, welcomed the alumni and highlighted the significance of maintaining strong bonds between the institution and its former students. Eminent dramatist and scriptwriter Pankaj Jyoti Bhuyan delivered a keynote speech, offering a critical appreciation of the newly released magazine. He commended Dr. Babita Baruah for her dedicated editorial guidance and applauded the quality of student contributions.
The event saw the presence of Anuj Kumar Saikia, several faculty members, alumni, and current students of the college. Chandan Bora, General Secretary of the Alumni Association, conducted the proceedings with grace and efficiency. The meet concluded on a nostalgic and hopeful note, reaffirming the shared commitment of the alumni towards the development and legacy of Chatia College.
