Tripura to Push Back Illegal Entrants: CM Manik Saha

News Desk, Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday reaffirmed the state government’s firm stance against illegal immigration, stating that any Bangladeshi or Rohingya entering the state illegally will be pushed back following due legal procedures. Tripura shares an 856-km international border with Bangladesh, making it a sensitive region in terms of cross-border movement. “If Bangladeshis or Rohingyas enter Tripura illegally, we will not allow them to stay. If they manage to sneak in, we will ensure their return through legal channels,” Saha said, addressing reporters in Agartala. His comments come amid heightened security concerns following recent law enforcement actions at border checkpoints. Earlier this month, Tripura Police at Churaibari Naka point in North Tripura District intercepted a truck carrying electric transformers and discovered 960 kilograms of cannabis concealed within the consignment. The vehicle, en route to Guwahati, Assam, was seized early Monday morning based on a tip-off. The seized cannabis is estimated to be worth Rs 4 crore in the illicit market. Churaibari Naka is a key interstate checkpoint between Tripura and Assam, and the incident has raised alarm over cross-border and interstate trafficking routes. The state government is expected to further tighten border security and surveillance measures in response to both illegal immigration and smuggling threats.
