Swift Action by Biswanath Police Foils Cattle Lifting Attempt

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali: In a commendable display of promptness and coordination, Biswanath Police foiled a suspected cattle lifting attempt in the early hours of Sunday. Acting on credible intelligence about the movement of cattle smugglers in the district, a joint operation was swiftly launched by officers from Sootea Police Station, BNC Police Station, and other units. According to an official release, the police team intercepted a suspicious Renault Triber vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 FR 7844 at approximately 2:45 AM. Upon being signaled to stop, the vehicle attempted to flee, triggering a high-speed chase. The suspects soon abandoned the vehicle and tried to escape on foot through nearby paddy fields. Amid the darkness and inclement weather, one of the accused, identified as Ayub Ali (30), son of Late Md. Ali of Sonaibali, Samaguri in Nagaon district, was apprehended on the spot. The other suspect managed to escape under the cover of darkness and rain. Upon inspecting the vehicle, police recovered a cow tied in the back seat, further confirming the cattle smuggling attempt. Efforts are currently underway to trace and arrest the absconding individual and dismantle the larger network involved in the illicit cattle trade. Biswanath Police’s swift and coordinated response has been widely appreciated by local residents, reaffirming public trust in the district's law enforcement machinery.
