Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a major crackdown on examination malpractice, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has suspended nine principals and one subject teacher from various government higher secondary schools across the state. The disciplinary action comes in the wake of a question paper leak during the recently held Higher Secondary First Year Examination. The suspension orders, signed by Mamata Hojai, Director of Secondary Education, Assam, follow the failure of the accused officials to respond satisfactorily to show-cause notices issued earlier. Some failed to reply altogether, prompting immediate administrative action. Among those suspended are Dr. Rohit Chandra Rabha, Principal of Narengkati HS School in Sonitpur, and Sandhya Bezbora, Principal of PM Shri Kathiatali HS School in Nagaon. Bezbora has been directly linked to the paper leak scandal. The action also includes Himani Dutta, a subject teacher at Baguan HS School in Goalpara, who has been named in connection with the leak of the Advanced Assamese paper. In Dhemaji district, three principals—Kabita Chutia of Bordoloni HS School, Chakraborty Borgohain of Dhemaji Girls’ Senior Secondary School, and Gopiram Doley of West Jonai Senior Secondary School—have also been relieved of their duties. Further suspensions were announced for officials in Majuli, Dhubri, and Rangiya. Lilamoni Borgohain of Kamalabari Satra HS School, Moinul Haque Mandal of Lakhiganj HS School, and Pradip Kalita, in-charge Principal of Rangiya Girls’ HS School, are among those facing disciplinary action. The ASSEB has instructed the respective district Inspectors of Schools to appoint acting principals at the affected institutions. The board’s decisive move underscores its zero-tolerance policy toward academic misconduct and highlights its commitment to restoring integrity in the examination process.
