Snatchers flee with chain in Dhubri Town

Selim SK, Dhubri: A shocking incident of chain snatching in broad daylight has sent waves of concern through Dhubri town, as a 70-year-old woman was robbed of her gold necklace on Monday near Ward No. 14, College Road by-lane. The victim, identified as Meera Nandi, was approached by two young men on a motorcycle who initially engaged her in conversation, asking in Hindi about the location of "Pandey’s house." Moments later, the duo circled back and forcefully snatched a gold chain weighing approximately two tolas (around 23 grams) from her neck before fleeing the scene. The incident occurred in a typically quiet residential area, heightening alarm among locals over the growing audacity of such crimes. However, in a promising development, a nearby house's CCTV camera captured clear footage of the accused and their motorcycle, which is now in the hands of local authorities. Police quickly reached the spot following the incident and have launched a formal investigation. "We are reviewing the CCTV footage and working to identify the suspects. Efforts are underway to trace them," a police official confirmed. The brazen nature of the theft has triggered safety concerns among residents, who are now calling for increased police patrolling and enhanced security measures in vulnerable areas. As the investigation progresses, residents hope for swift justice and a stronger deterrent against such crimes in the future.
