Panigaon HS School Launches Guest Lectureship to Boost English Learning

Staff Reporter, Lakhimpur: In a significant step toward improving English language education, the Department of English at Panigaon Higher Secondary School, one of Lakhimpur district's premier educational institutions, has initiated a series of programmes aimed at enhancing the study, teaching, and learning of English among students. With an emphasis on eliminating "xenoglossophobia"—the fear of foreign languages—the school has formed an English Study Forum comprising local scholars of the subject. The initiative is being spearheaded by English teachers Tulendra Das, Prasanta Barik, and Dipankar Bhuyan. A key component of the initiative is a newly launched Guest Lectureship Programme, inaugurated on Monday by noted writer, poet, columnist, and journalist Ranjit Kakati, an alumnus of the school. Kakati conducted two special sessions for HS 2nd year students on the topic "How to Study English Poetry," focusing on John Keats’ poem “A Thing of Beauty” from the syllabus. As part of this ongoing programme, two distinguished speakers will be invited to deliver lectures twice a month for students of First and Second Year. The objective is to bring fresh perspectives and innovative methods into the classroom. Future plans under this initiative include workshops on creative writing, a state-level poem writing competition, and staging of selected curriculum-based stories in dramatic form. Prasanta Barik informed that these programmes are designed not only to deepen students' understanding of English literature but also to encourage active participation and creativity. Ranjit Kakati has been appointed as the chief advisor to guide and oversee the series of English enrichment initiatives.
