Staff Reporter, Guwahati: The Government of India is set to launch its flagship pre-Kharif initiative, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, from May 29 to June 12, 2025, with a strong focus on empowering farmers through localized agricultural technologies and sustainable practices. The campaign, announced by Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is aimed at strengthening grassroots agricultural development and aligning scientific innovations with real-world challenges faced by farmers. In the North Eastern region, the campaign will be led by ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone VI, covering the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. Assam will be at the heart of the outreach, with over 5 lakh farmers in 3,250 villages expected to benefit from the program. Teams of scientists, experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), officials from Assam Agricultural University (AAU), and various government departments will travel to remote and vulnerable areas to engage with farming communities. Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director of ICAR-ATARI Zone VI, highlighted that the initiative aims to build a strong, trust-based relationship between farmers and the scientific community. He emphasized the importance of climate-resilient, location-specific agricultural solutions, adding that the campaign will also promote the use of Soil Health Cards, balanced fertilizer practices, and increased awareness of government schemes. Most importantly, farmers’ feedback will play a key role in shaping future agricultural research and policy direction. As part of this initiative, 52 expert teams in Assam will interact directly with farmers in tribal, aspirational, and climate-sensitive zones. The goal is not only to promote innovation but also to create a participatory framework for agricultural development—where solutions are co-created and tailored to local needs. Launched jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and ICAR, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan marks a significant step toward inclusive, knowledge-driven, and sustainable agriculture, aiming to create a resilient farming ecosystem across India.
