Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Assam’s own Mridul Saikia (28), is set to make history as the only Indian fighter in Road to UFC Season 4, an international platform that selects top Asian MMA athletes for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The event kicks off soon in Shanghai, featuring 32 fighters from 11 countries. Known in the ring as "The Crusher", Mridul boasts an undefeated record of 8 wins. His powerful, aggressive style and disciplined training at Dojang MMA in Guwahati have earned him national attention. “I’m fully prepared. Winning this could bring me closer to my dream — the UFC,” he said. Mridul’s turning point came in 2017 after the loss of his mother. “It changed me. I didn’t want to waste time anymore,” he recalled. Though initially unsure, his family now stands firmly behind him. His sister Jeba and brother-in-law Imtiyaz supported him emotionally and financially. Today, even his father, a BRO employee, beams with pride. “One of his senior officers watched my fight in Delhi. That moment made him proud,” Mridul shared.
