Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Global music icon and American rapper Post Malone is set to headline a landmark live concert in Guwahati on December 8, 2025, marking a defining moment for Assam’s cultural and tourism landscape. The concert will be the first major event under the state’s newly launched Concert Economy Policy, a government-backed initiative aimed at transforming Assam into a hub for world-class music and entertainment. Announcing the development at a press conference in Dergaon, Golaghat, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the policy had received Cabinet approval after being proposed during the latest Budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly. The Concert Economy Policy seeks to promote tourism, engage the youth, and boost cultural activity through high-impact live events. Sarma pointed to the success of similar policies in states like Gujarat and Meghalaya, noting how a recent Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad reportedly generated revenue of Rs 600 crore. Meghalaya, too, has gained recognition for its vibrant live music scene. As part of the broader policy rollout, the government has identified Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat as priority cities for hosting international-standard concerts. Event organizers will receive government support to ensure seamless execution and encourage long-term private investment in Assam’s cultural industries.
