Staff Reporter, Biswanath: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint team of Biswanath and Sootea police apprehended the mastermind of a drug peddling gang on Thursday night. The arrest was made during a targeted operation at Kekukali village, Khanamukh, under Chariduar Police Station. The operation was based on inputs provided by two previously arrested peddlers, Jamir Ali and Ikramul Hussain, who were caught on May 20. Acting on their tip-off, the police, with support from the Khanamukh outpost, arrested the key accused, Nurjamal. During the raid, police recovered 10.69 grams of drugs contained in eight containers, along with an Alto car (registration no. AS12A G0659), ₹1,07,400 in cash, and a mobile phone. The accused was immediately taken to Sootea Police Station for further interrogation. Officer-in-charge of Sootea PS, Trilochan Das, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely. Local residents have raised concerns over the rising drug activities, especially in minority-dominated areas, urging authorities to dismantle the wider network behind the drug trade.
