Staff Reporter, Margherita: In a historic ruling, the Margherita Sub-Divisional Magistrate Court delivered its first-ever life imprisonment sentence on May 19, bringing closure to a seven-year-long legal battle. Monteswar Dohotia was sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2018 murder of his uncle, Bimal Dohotia. The verdict was pronounced by Additional Session Judge Anil Kumar Basfor in what is being hailed as a landmark moment for the court. The case was registered as Session Case No. 17(M)/2020 and originated from Bordumsa Police Station Case No. 42/2018. According to the case details, Monteswar, along with his accomplice Pabitra Dohotia, allegedly killed Bimal Dohotia in 2018. While Monteswar now faces life behind bars, Pabitra remains absconding and has yet to be apprehended by authorities. Both accused hail from 1 No. Mohong Shantipur under Bordumsa Police Station in the Margherita sub-division. Monteswar is the son of Phuleswar Dohotia, and Pabitra is the son of Kulai Dohotia. The verdict has been welcomed by local residents and community leaders, who see it as a strong message against violent crimes. Many have expressed hope that this ruling will act as a deterrent and help restore faith in the justice system in the region.
