Staff Reporter, Guwahati, May 23: A man accused of defrauding multiple individuals by using forged documents and bogus work orders has been arrested by Dispur police following a formal complaint. The accused, identified as 32-year-old Jyotirmoy Lahkar, allegedly posed as a supplier of medical equipment and deceived victims with fake work orders, promising lucrative returns. The arrest followed an FIR filed by Md Samim Ali, a resident of The Legacy Apartment in FA Ahmed Nagar, who reported being cheated out of ₹4 lakh. According to Ali, Lahkar presented fabricated documents to convince him of the legitimacy of a medical equipment supply deal. Police sources said the accused is suspected to have duped several others across Guwahati and Jorhat using similar tactics. “Lahkar was taken into custody based on credible evidence of forgery and deception. An investigation is underway to determine the scale of the fraud and identify additional victims,” an official from Dispur police station confirmed. Authorities are now urging anyone who may have been approached by Lahkar or entered into financial dealings with him to report to the nearest police station. The case has raised alarms about the rising number of white-collar crimes in the region, prompting police to reiterate the importance of verifying documents and work orders before committing to any business transaction. Further legal proceedings are ongoing as police work to uncover the full extent of the scam.
