BTR Felicitates 165 Bodo Artistes for Republic Day Performances

Abhijit Chaliha, Kokrajhar: The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Government honoured 165 Bodo folk artistes and musicians who represented Assam at the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi between 1955 and 1986, showcasing traditional dances like Bagurumba.Organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs, BTR, in collaboration with the Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA) and BTR Boro Radio and Television Artistes Association, the felicitation ceremony was held at the Bodofa Cultural Complex in Kokrajhar. Each artiste received a traditional Aronai, Endi shawl, memento, and a cash award of ₹50,000. Of the 165 artistes, 120 are alive and 45 were honoured posthumously. Assam Cabinet Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, the Chief Guest, praised the BTR Government’s initiative and called on other autonomous councils to recognise cultural contributors in similar fashion. BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro expressed gratitude to the artistes for taking Bodo culture to the national stage. He also announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each for 12 cultural clubs that participated in the Republic Day events during those years. Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Bodo Sahitya Sabha President Dr. Surath Narzary, and several other dignitaries were present at the event, which celebrated decades of cultural pride and contribution.
