Staff Reporter, Silchar: An Assistant Professor at Assam University, Ajit Kumar Jena, has been named in a First Information Report (FIR) filed by a group of students from the Department of Social Work, accusing him of sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, and abuse of power. The FIR, lodged on Sunday at the Assam University Police Outpost, outlines a series of serious allegations against Professor Jena, including repeated misconduct, mental harassment, and the use of sexually explicit and defamatory language directed at students and fellow faculty members. According to the complainants, Jena allegedly misused his position during academic meetings to issue threats, manipulate students, and make inappropriate comments. The FIR claims he pressured students to meet him in secluded locations such as restaurants and private cabins during odd hours, where he is said to have used sexually abusive language. The complaint further alleges that Jena made vulgar remarks about the personal lives of students and colleagues, threatened academic penalties including detention, and attempted to coerce students into making false statements in his defense. These actions, the students claim, have caused them significant emotional and psychological distress. Key charges listed in the FIR include sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, character assassination, coercion, and abuse of authority. The students have expressed their willingness to submit supporting evidence, including call logs, mobile recordings, screenshots, and testimonies from witnesses. Sources confirmed that the Officer-in-Charge of the Assam University Police Outpost has officially acknowledged receipt of the FIR. University officials have yet to release a formal statement on the matter. The incident has sparked concern within academic circles and student communities, raising questions about campus safety and institutional response to such complaints.
