Staff Reporter, Guwahati: A shocking incident has rocked the Balapara area of Bajali district, where a man was allegedly murdered by his own son following a heated dispute over voting choices in the recent Panchayat elections. The victim, identified as Bhaben Roy, was reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon by his younger son, Arup Roy, after a bitter argument erupted over political preferences. The argument reportedly stemmed from Bhaben's anger towards his wife, Anima Roy, for allegedly not voting for the “Cup-Plate” symbol, which escalated into a fatal confrontation. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, when the situation spiraled out of control. Bhaben sustained severe head injuries and was later found dead in his bedroom, his body soaked in blood and bearing clear signs of violent assault. After the attack, Arup fled the scene. Meanwhile, Anima Roy allegedly attempted to cover up the crime by telling neighbors that her husband had collapsed due to a sudden illness. However, her explanation raised suspicions among the locals, prompting them to inform the police. Officers from Balapara and Sarthebari police stations, along with a magistrate, rushed to the location and launched an investigation. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital in Barpeta. The police have registered a case and are currently on the lookout for Arup Roy, who remains absconding. The gruesome incident has left the local community stunned, as authorities continue their probe into the tragic case of political disagreement turning deadly within a family.
