Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during his visit to Kochutoli in Sonapur on Tuesday, addressed a range of critical issues including his political plans, upcoming development projects, and a firm stance on land scam-related crimes. Speaking about his political future, CM Sarma reiterated his allegiance to his constituency. “Jalukbari is my own constituency, and I will contest the elections there. I will do whatever the party decides for me,” he stated, putting to rest any speculation about a change in his electoral base. The Chief Minister also spotlighted the state’s upcoming development initiatives, particularly focusing on Jorhat. “In Jorhat, we will carry out many developmental works,” he announced, signaling the government’s continued push for infrastructure growth and public welfare in Upper Assam. On the issue of land scams and illegal land occupation, CM Sarma took a stern stance, warning of strong legal action. “We will arrest the brokers involved in land scams under the NSA (National Security Act). The people occupying land want to leave, but the brokers are bringing them back,” he said, vowing to dismantle the nexus that enables unlawful land dealings. As part of his law-and-order agenda, Sarma also announced a major boost to local policing infrastructure. “In the next six months, construction work for the police battalion will begin in Kochutoli, Sonapur,” he declared. The planned facility is expected to enhance security operations and improve governance in the region. The Chief Minister’s visit underlines the Assam government’s dual focus on development and decisive governance, as it moves forward with its agenda ahead of future elections.
