Kokrajhar, January 27: The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government is commemorating the fifth anniversary of the historic BTR Peace Accord with a series of events over two days, from January 27. The BTR Peace Accord was signed on January 27, 2020, between the Bodo Movement groups, and the Union and Assam governments. The celebration kicked off today, with a grand bike rally in Kokrajhar, which saw enthusiastic participation, including that of BTR Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro. The rally highlighted the peace and progress achieved in the region since the signing of the accord. In the afternoon, an award distribution ceremony was held at the Bodofa Cultural Complex, where individuals excelling in various fields were honored by the BTR government for their contributions to society. On January 28, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend various programs scheduled in Kokrajhar. Sarma will inaugurate the newly constructed hostels for BTC EMs (Executive Members) and MCLAs (Members of the Council Legislative Assembly) at Harinaguri, lay the foundation stone of Kokrajhar University campus, and perform the Gwthar Bathou San celebration at the Bathou Traditional and Cultural Center at Bagansali in Kokrajhar town. Thereafter, Chief Minister Sarma will address a public gathering during the event. The two-day program aims to celebrate the achievements of the peace accord while reflecting on the journey of growth and harmony in the region.
