Staff Reporter, Barpeta, August 13: A massive fire broke out in Barpeta Road town in the Barpeta district, causing significant damage to a prominent electronics business establishment. The fire, which erupted in the early hours on August 13, completely gutted Geetanjali, a large electronics shop owned by local businessmen Deepak Bengani and Laxmikant Bengani. The fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, destroyed all the goods and materials stored in the shop and warehouse, amounting to several crores of rupees in losses. Despite the severity of the blaze, the fire brigade's prompt response prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures, including the Jhulan temple, which is located adjacent to the establishment. Fortunately, the residence of the Bengani brothers, located next to the business, was spared from the fire. All family members managed to evacuate safely and are reported to be unharmed. The incident has triggered widespread panic across Barpeta Road town as locals witnessed the intense blaze. However, the fire was successfully brought under control before it could cause further damage to the area. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire, with a short circuit being a primary suspect. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities businesses face, particularly in relation to electrical safety and fire prevention measures.
