A Correspondent, Bajali, August 12: A day-long program was held on Monday at BHB College, Sarupeta to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Father of Library Science, Padma Shri Dr. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan. To mark the occasion a meeting was organised at Digital conference hall under the presidentship of Dr. Nayan Jyoti Das, Principal, BHB College. The meeting started with a Lighting of lamp in front of the portrait of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan by Dr. Kalpana Baishya, faculty of the College. Attending as a special guest, Phanidhar Mech delivered a brief lecture on how a good book can improve the quality of life as well as improve mental health. He also stressed on the importance of a library oriented mindset among the students. In his oration, Dr. Nayan Jyoti Das said that there is no substitute for studying books in the pursuit of knowledge and teachers and librarians have a great responsibility towards developing the reading habit among the students. In connection to the celebration of National Librarians’ Day, a Quiz Competition was organized. The Quizmasters of the competition were Deijee Kalita, Librarian, BHB College and Dr. Preeti Rekha Dutta, Assistant Professor of the college. The first position was bagged by Mohidul Hauqe & Gagan Kalita, second position by Bikash Nath & Pritam Nath and third position by Bidyut Nath & Subham Sarkar. The position holders were awarded with certificates, trophies and a sapling. Moreover Gunjan Nath also feted with Best Library Volunteer award in the same event for his voluntary contributions to the library. Almost all the Faculty members and students attended the programme.
