Dr. Ranoj Pegu inaugurates women hostel at LCC

Staff Reporter, North Lakhimpur, January 16: State education minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu inaugurated the newly completed women hostel of Lakhimpur Commerce College(LCC), North Lakhimpur on January 14 last. Constructed under the UGC grant of XII Plan, the four-storeyed hostel was inaugurated by minister Dr. Pegu in presence of Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka and several distinguished dignitaries, alumni members, college staff and local public in an august ceremony inside the college campus. A meeting was organized by the college which was chaired by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, the Principal of the college. The objective of the meeting was explained by Prof. Kuldeep Narayan Dutta. In his inaugural speech, the education minister expressed his concern that only 13% of students in Assam enroll for commerce stream despite its high employability. He asked the teachers of Lakhimpur Commerce College to devise curriculum modules to be adopted for introducing commerce education at the school level. Dr. Pegu urged the academicians to organize workshops on commerce education for schools for the NEP-2020 and submit it to the government for implementation. He also asked the colleges to become centres of innovation and incubation to extend services to various sectors of the society as consultants and contract agencies. The meeting was also addressed by Manab Deka, local MLA. Deka urged the college authorities to produce a quality environment by taking care of every aspect of student's life apart from academics. The inaugural meeting was also attended by Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, eminent academician Dr. Mukunda Rajbangshi, college governing body president Dr. Muhidhar Pujari and the principals of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Dr. Biman Chetia, Panigaon OPD College Dr. Suresh Dutta, LTK College Dr. Bubul Saikia, Nowboicha College Dr. Gunindra Nath Sarma and of Gogamukh College Dr. Dileep Jha. The president of alumni association of Lakhimpur Commerce College Ram Kumar Saraf, Nanda Kishore Rathi, Ramesh Bajaj, eminent medicine specialist Dr D.D. Mili, advocate Braja Lal Debnath, retired professors Naren Sarma, Dr. Premananda Howbora, Dr. Sanchita Chaliha and many more attended the inaugural function. A book on library management by the college Librarian Runjun Baruah was also inaugurated in that function.
