Bhumi Pujan of Barechahar Bhaona

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali, December 13: The historic Barechahar Bhaona of Jamugurihat is one of the oldest and largest bhaona festivals of the state. The bhaona festival is scheduled to be held in the month of March next year with a four-day programme. It is to be noted here that the historic barechahar bhaona festival helds in the historic Pokamura Pothar (paddy field) every year which covers fifty bighas of land that belongs to private patta holders. This time, the state government has purchased the land in the name of the permanent committee of Barechahar Bhaona committee. The bhumi pujan ceremony of the ancient bhaona festival was formally conducted amid religious rituals and cultural tradition by Deva Kumar Mishra, the deputy commissioner of Sonitpur today in presence of august gathering. Addressing the gathering, Sootea MLA cum president of the bhaona celebration committee said that a total of ten crores have been released for purchasing of the land. The patta holders of the Pokamura Pothar will get the value of their respective lands very soon. He also added that the earth filling work of the bhaona site will be accomplished by December last. He sought all sorts of support and cooperation from the public to make the event a success. It is to be mentioned here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home minister Amit Shah will be invited for the upcoming bhaona festival. The bhumi pujan ceremony was attended by Bhaba Goswami, president of Barechahar Bhaona committee, Jayanta Bora, secretary besides other dignitaries. Nitumoni Bora conducted the proceedings of the ceremony.
