Tortured by husband, women commits suicide in Jagun

Bikash Baruah, Tinsukia, October 18: A daughter-in-law commits suicide in Udaipur no. 3 under Lekhapani police station in Tinsukia district There is a lot of tension at night. It is learnt that Prashanta Katwal, the second Assam Rifles jawan from Udaipur No.3, had tied the knot with Sonia Chetri, daughter of Dhan Br. Chetri, a resident of Jagun 9 miles, on July 4. After spending some time together at the Army family residence in Mizoram at work, husband Prashant Katwal started torturing his wife Sonia mentally and physically. Sonia had informed her father's family over the mobile phone before she died about such inhuman torture, her family members said. After this, Sonia's body was mysteriously found hanging from the ceiling fan. The family members could not take Sonia's suicide lightly and demanded a proper probe into the matter. The Lekhapani police assured the family of a proper investigation into the incident and sent the body for postmortem. However, soon after the body reached home after a post-mortem at Monday night, locals broke the furniture of the accused Prashant Katwal's residence and ransacked it.The police are forced to fire the blank to break the rights to the agitated public.The police have managed to control the situation but tension is still prevailing in the area.
