Biswanath Chariali, October 31:The Sootea regional committee of the NPS (New Pension Scheme) employees of various departments under the state government of the greater Sootea area was constituted in a public meeting held at Chatia College on October 29 with Ananda Handique in the chair. Nearly two hundred employees of various government departments attended the public meeting. Binay Saikia, secretary of Biswanath district NPS association addressed the gathering and made a humble appeal to all concerned to stand united for their demand for OPS (Old Pension Scheme). Saikia further added that the New Pension Scheme (NPS) has left the retired NPS employees in an uncertain dark situation. He said the new pension scheme has left some retired teachers and employees in the Sootea area in dire straits. A retired employee in Sootea receives only Rs 900 in the name of pension from NPS, while his electricity bill comes in at Rs 1,200 per month. Therefore, he said, the old pension scheme should be restored and the retired employees should be allowed to live with a secured future. He also urged everyone to make the march to Dispur on November 8 a success. The meeting was also addressed by Dipak Koirala, Dilip Bora, Putul Bora, Samsul Haque. At the end of the meeting the Sootea regional committee of NPS association was constituted with Ananda Handique as president, Putul Bora as secretary along with 31 executive members.
