Biswanath Chariali, October 20: A police team of Sootea police station headed by Shyamal Jyoti Saikia, officer in charge of Sootea police station opened fire at Guwatoli and Biswanath Chariali police station today. According to information, one Jagir Ali, an accused of kidnapping and a resident of Chatia managed to hide himself from the police. Following a secret information, the police team reached Guwatoli to apprehend Jagir. But seeing the police team, Jagir tried to run away from his hiding place. The police team was unable to apprehend Jagir due to the large gathering. To suppress the mob and catch Jagir, the police team opened fire lawfully, said Nabin Singh, superintendent of Biswanath police. Later on Jagir surrendered before the police team. It is to be mentioned here that a gang of five people tried to kidnap a girl from Charaijani village under Sootea police station on October 9. But with the promptness of villagers the gang was unable to kidnap the girl on that day. While One of the gangs, Maser Ali was catched by the villagers who was later handed over to Sootea police. The mastermind of the kidnap case was identified as Jagir Ali, a resident of Guwatoli who managed to escape from the site that day. Sootea police today got secret information about the location of Jagir's hideout and while proceeding to arrest him he tried to run away.
