Tobacco awareness program held in Lakhimpur

Staff Reporter, North Lakhimpur, September 15: Lakhimpur Cancer Centre under Government Of Assam, and a Unit of Assam Cancer Care Foundation, AInA Welfare Foundation and Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha in association with Assam Cancer Care Foundation, organized an awareness programme on the USE OF TOBACCO AND ITS RELATION WITH CANCER at ACMS District headquarter Lakhimpur today. Sonjit Tanti, ACMS District Secretary led the meeting and senior dignitaries, District President of women committee Gayatri Nayak, District Secretary of women Committee Puneswari Karmakar, Branch President ACMS- Jagadish Das were also present in the programme. Dr. Ankita Ghosh, Dentist of Lakhimpur Cancer Centre talked about Cancer and its symptoms. She mainly focused on Cancer and health. She said,"From a cross sectional study it is found that people from tea industry in Assam have high access to tobacco and alcohol. People suffering from cancer must visit Lakhimpur Cancer Care Centre for the best treatment". She also pointed out that with the help of available facilities one can save his or her lives if the treatment started during the initial stage of the disease at low cost. District health manager, Community outreach programme, Assam Cancer Care Foundation Sanjeev Kumar Baitha briefed about the advanced lab services in the Centre, along with other best services such as Chemotherapy, Radiation Oncology, CT scan, MRI, Mammography, Cancer Screening, Lab investigations etc. He also mentioned that any non-cancer patients who are in need of Diagnostic services can do their test in Lakhimpur Centre only. AInA Welfare Foundation Chief Executive Director Krishna Pratim Bordoloi promised that best of the best services will be provided to the needy ones for the treatment, services like ambulance facility, any information regarding Cancer, whom to contact first and helping them in every possible manner. They also have plans to organize Cancer screening camps in all the Tea Gardens of Lakhimpur. AInA Welfare Foundation has been working for the last 3 years for the betterment of socio economic status of the tea tribe community and it mainly focuses on the health, education & livelihood sector. It was very much welcoming as more than 60 participants were present in the awareness camp. Mahila Samiti representatives from each of the tea gardens of Lakhimpur District were present.
