Kamal Rajbanshi conferred with Guru Ratna title

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali, September 5: 'Guru Ratna' title was officially conferred on Kamal Rajbanshi, a retired teacher of Nagsankar High School by Alok; a socio-cultural and educational organization of the greater Nagsankar area in a public meeting held at Nagsankar Natya Bhawan on the occasion of Teacher's Day. Kamal Rajbanshi was a retired teacher of Nagsankar High School and a resident of Samdhara, Dhalaibil who is closely associated with many socio-cultural and literary organizations of the greater Sootea-Jamugurihat area including Barechahar Bhaona committee, Assam Sahitya Sabha besides others. He has translated selected short stories of William Shakespeare into Assamese language and published 'Shakespearer Golpo Samagra' besides other literary publications. Before the function, Rajbanshi was brought to Nagsankar Natya Bhawan along with a procession by gayan-bayan, NCC cadets, former students and general public. A public meeting was held at Nagsankar Natya Bhawan with Paresh Saikia, president of Alok in the chair. The felicitation programme began with a bargeet performed by Anamika Saikia. Nearly one hundred retired teachers of the greater Nagsankar area were felicitated by the organizers at the outset of the meeting with a citation and gamosa. Biswa Hazarika, principal of Panpur HSS graced the occasion as an appointed speaker who had highlighted the life and ideology of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Rajbanshi was conferred with the 'Guru Ratna' title besides offering him a citation, gamosa, chelen, japi, memento, paguri and a sarai. Addressing the gathering Rajbanshi fondly recalled the bygone days and appealed to the teacher community not to take the teaching as a profession but make it a mission. A teacher should be a visionary leader and a source of inspiration for thousands of young hearts. All the proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Putul Bora, vice president of Alok. Biman Saikia, secretary of Alok offered a vote of thanks. Various socio-cultural organizations of the greater Nagsankar area also felicitated Rajbanshi on the special day. The meeting was attended by Chandra Kanta Sarma, retired headmaster of Dakhin Nagsankar High School, Dulu Gogoi, retired headmaster of Nagsankar High School as guests of honour. The meeting was also attended by Hitesh Barua, Labanya Devi, Ballav Chapagain, Lochan Bora along with many dignitaries.
